In the year 1920, a group of intellectuals like Shri C. G. Deshpande, V. R. Date, G. N. Tilak, M. K. Bhave, A. M. Palkar and honourable Siddheshwar Shastri Chitrav laid the foundation of the Saraswati Mandir Sanstha in the heart of the Pune city. The institution was set up with the noble intention of taking education to the grassroots.

On 15 Sept. 1992, the Sanstha started Saraswati Mandir Night College of Arts and Commerce to fulfil the educational needs of the working and disadvantaged students. Sanstha has shown that there is no age limit or time bar for education. Most of our students are working to help their family.

There is a large class of youth who are deprived of higher education as they have to work for their living in the day and so are unable to attend day colleges. Saraswati Mandir Night College has been imparting higher education to such needy students by providing those opportunities for career development.

The Principal of the college and a team of highly qualified staff are working with great zeal and dedication for the further development of the College. The college has the English medium branch of its Commerce wing, a post-graduate course like M.A (Marathi and Economics), M.Com and a Certificate Course in Foreign Languages.

The college has taken the initiative to protect the environment and started using solar power. The college has installed rooftop 28 solar panels. This is the best practice of the college.
